Man Charged With Attacking Paul Pelosi Is a MAGA Cultist Who Said the Speaker Was Using ‘Fake Evidence to Spy On’ Trump

LOS ANGELES - FEB 10: Nancy Pelosi, Paul Pelosi at the Musicares Person of the Year honoring Tom Petty at Los Angeles Convention Center on February 10, 2017 in Los Angeles, CA

The man charged with attacking Paul Pelosi, the spouse of Nancy Pelosi, in the couple’s San Francisco home in what prosecutors called a “near-fatal” attack is a pro-Trump activist who told law enforcement officials the Speaker and other Democrats were “crazy and corrupt,” “submitting fake evidence to spy on” ex-president Donald Trump’s campaign, and that he needed “to take them out.”

Buzzfeed reports the suspect, David DePape, “also told officials he planned to target California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Hunter Biden, and actor Tom Hanks,”  San Francisco police Sgt. Carla Hurley testified in court on Wednesday.

In an audio recording played in court DePape reportedly told Sgt. Hurley the people he had targeted, which also includes the Speaker herself, “go from one crime to another crime to another crime to another crime,” and “it’s just like the whole fucking four years until they were finally able to steal the election. It’s unacceptable.”

There is no evidence Speaker Pelosi, or any of the others Depape allegedly targeted, have been charged with any crimes. Paul Pelosi pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol in May. He was sentenced to five days in jail, thousands of dollars in fines, and probation.

“During the hearing, prosecutors also showed body camera footage from Cagney’s partner and surveillance footage that showed DePape breaking into the Pelosis’ home and played recordings of the 911 call Paul Pelosi made, as well as 17 minutes of an interview Hurley conducted with DePape after the attack.”

Buzzfeed adds that the 42-yar old DePape “is facing several state charges, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and threats to a public official and their family, in connection with the early morning attack on Paul Pelosi. He could be sentenced to 13 years to life in prison if convicted.”
