At Least 9 Different GOP Groups and Lawmakers Bought in Bulk or Promoted Trump Jr’s ‘Number One’ Book

When Donald Trump, Jr.‘s book “Triggered” was released it quickly rose to number one on The New York Times’ best seller list, which the president was only too happy to herald and promote, again and again, in tweets like these:

But it wasn’t only President Trump’s tweets that skyrocketed his son’s book – which is subtitled, “How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us” – to the top of the charts.

“At least nine Republican organizations, G.O.P. candidates or advocacy groups are selling ‘Triggered’ or promoting Mr. Trump’s book tour,” The New York Times reports.

The newspaper adds, “the breadth of the Republican establishment’s effort behind Mr. Trump is striking for a noncandidate whose most significant claim to fame remains his parentage, and who has sought to deflect criticism of his recent attacks on impeachment witnesses by asserting that he is merely a ‘private citizen.'”

Among the right-wing groups selling Trump’s book are the Republican National Committee (RNC), which “denied making large bulk purchases of the book” to the Times, despite “F.E.C. records released last week [that] showed that it spent almost $100,000 on copies on Oct. 29, a transaction the committee acknowledged was part of its ‘Triggered’ promotion.”

Others include Turning Point USA, the far right wing college campus-based organization that is very closely tied to Donald Trump Jr., and the Trump campaign.

(TPUSA is the subject of numerous reports of race-based complaints. Its now-former communications director, representing the group, effectively praised Hitler, suggesting his mistake was to support globalization.)

Also buying or promoting Jr.’s book is Citizens United – the right wing group famous for winning a Supreme Court case that has allowed dark money to flood the U.S. political system, and whose president has strong ties to the Trump campaign.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), the grenade-throwing extremist “used his campaign list to promote a ticketed event on Mr. Trump’s book tour where the two men appeared together.”

And House Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s campaign committee “has offered copies to those who donate $35.”

This week Trump Jr.’s book was pushed out of the number one slot on the New York Times’ list by “A Warning,” the book authored by an anonymous senior Trump administration official who published a scathing op-ed revealing there was a group of executive branch top officials working to contain the most damaging and dangerous actions the president has attempted.
