MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace blasted Attorney General Bill Barr Wednesday for lying during his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“I’m not going to dance around this: He’s lying,” Wallace told host Brian Williams. “He’s lying about what the Mueller report finds about one of the critical flash points in the obstruction investigation.”
It’s a hefty accusation, but Wallace was prepared to back up her claim.
“One of the incidents that was investigated, by Robert Mueller and his obstruction investigators, was the attempted firing of the Special Counsel. It was one of the incidents that was under investigation into, really, days before Mueller wrapped up,” she said. “He’s quibbling with whether ‘removing’ Mueller and ‘firing’ him is the same thing” Wallace said, flabbergasted.
“Here’s how Donald Trump talked about removing-slash-firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller,” Wallace reported, as she began to read several of the five examples from the Mueller report of President Donald Trump talking about firing – not removing – Robert Mueller.
“‘Chris Christie recalled a telephone conversation with the President in which the President asked what Christie thought about the president firing – firing, not removing – the Special Counsel,’” Wallace read.
Wallace also read some of now-former White House Counsel Don McGahn’s testimony, in which Trump tried “to make McGahn fire him,” she noted.
She then noted testimony from former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus, who says, “the President asked me to do some crazy shit,” Wallace read, apologizing for the foul language.
“I’m sorry to swear, but I think we’ve got an Attorney General lying about what is in the Mueller report around what was the most investigated flash points in the obstruction investigation. And my question again, is, ‘Why?'”
