Espionage? Mystery Mar-a-Lago ‘Malware Madam’ Also Had Device to Detect Hidden Cameras And Thousands in Cash

Yujing Zhang, the mystery Chinese “malware madam” who lied her way into President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago private resort last week was known to have a thumb drive with malicious malware installed but new reports suggest she may have been involved in some sort of espionage, CBS Miami reports.

Prosecutors found “a signal detector” that can be used to “detect hidden cameras,” along with now five cell phones, “nine USB drives and five SIM cards. There were also several credit cards in her name,” and $7,600 in U.S. currency. Earlier reports noted she also had a laptop and an external hard drive.

“She lies to everyone she encounters,” and has no ties to the US, prosecutor Rolando Garcia said. “Her ties are all in China,” he later added.

Prosecutors consider her a flight risk.

“She has not been charged with any offenses that nod to international spying. However, the FBI has been investigating the Zhang incident as part of a Chinese espionage effort,” CBS adds.

But the Miami Herald reports prosecutors “are treating the case as a national-security matter and the FBI is investigating.” Her possession of so many tech devices “raised suspicions among federal investigators already probing possible Chinese intelligence operations in South Florida that she could be engaged in espionage.”

President Trump today fired his head of the Secret Service but the White House claims that was in the works for weeks and had nothing to do with Zhang’s unauthorized breach of the Trump property.
