Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) will be facing an investigation by the Florida Bar Association over a threat he made against former Trump attorney Michael Cohen. Less than 24 hours before Cohen was scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Gaetz tweeted out threatening remarks to Cohen.
The Daily Beast reports the Florida Bar will investigate if Gaetz “violated professional conduct rules” with his tweet. A private citizen reportedly filed a complaint.
Congressman Gaetz Tuesday evening posted a tweet some experts say was a threat, witness tampering, or an attempt to obstruct justice or impede an investigation.
“Do your wife & father-in-law know about your girlfriends?” Gaetz tweeted to Michael Cohen. “Maybe tonight would be a good time for that chat. I wonder if she’ll remain faithful when you’re in prison. She’s about to learn a lot…”
Hours later, Gaetz deleted the offending tweet and apologized, but only after Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi re-issued a warning she had made just last week about intimidating witnesses testifying before Congress.
Speaker Pelosi Tuesday night suggested the House Ethics Committee would investigate.
