President Donald Trump is claiming Tuesday night’s terror attack in Strasbourg, France proves America needs greater “border security.” On the one hand, his remarks show he learned something from his dustup with Democratic Leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer Tuesday afternoon. He’s now speaking in terms of “border security,” even if he still means “build the wall.”
But the president’s argument shows exactly how little he understands the actual issues.
“Another very bad terror attack in France,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. “We are going to strengthen our borders even more. Chuck and Nancy must give us the votes to get additional Border Security!”
Max Boot, an outspoken critic of Donald Trump and a CNN analyst and Washington Post columnist, took Trump to task immediately, noting the growing problem isn’t foreign terrorists, but homegrown ones.
Boot knows what he’s talking about. He’s also a Senior Fellow in National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, a military historian, a life-long journalist (and until Trump, a life-long conservative.)
