‘They Put That on to Embarrass Me’: Trump Goes on Fox News to Attack Federal Prosecutors

President Donald Trump just went on Fox News, just 24 hours after his former personal attorney was sentenced to serve three years in prison, in large part for actions he took on behalf of and to help get Donald Trump elected.

“They put that on to embarrass me,” Trump told Fox News‘ Harris Faulkner. “They put those two charges on to embarrass me,” he repeated, referring to the hush money payments made to porn actress Stormy Daniels and Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal.

“They’re not criminal charges,” Trump, who is not an attorney, stated.

Federal prosecutors and the federal judge who sentenced Michael Cohen on Wednesday disagree. In fact, the judge made clear during Cohen’s sentencing that “each of these crimes is a serious offense against the United States.”

“What happened is either Cohen or the prosecutors, in order to embarrass me, said: ‘Listen, I’m making this deal for reduced time and everything else. Do me a favor and put these two charges on,'” Trump claimed Cohen asked the prosecutors.

Watch:

There is absolutely no evidence or reason to believe what the President is alleging is true.

If it were, the prosecutors would be in violation of their oaths and presumably could be charged, and if found guilty, sent to jail. As the head of the executive branch, Trump has said he has the power to direct federal investigations. Why hasn’t he asked the DOJ or FBI to look into these allegations?

Trump, according to a Fox News article, went on to say, “It’s a terrible system we have.”

He also said he made a mistake in hiring Cohen a decade ago.

“I hire usually good people but it just happened.”
