Treasury Secretary Won’t Defend Trump’s Lies
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin is refusing to say whether or not President Trump’s pre-Election Day promise of a 10% tax cut for the middle class was ever “a real thing or not a real thing.” But in a just-published interview with Bloomberg News, Mnuchin made clear there is not going to be a 10% tax cut for the middle class.
In other words, Trump lied.
“I’m not going to comment on whether it is a real thing or not a real thing,” Mnuchin told Bloomberg in a roundtable interview Tuesday. “I’m saying for the moment we have other things we’re focused on.”
What other things?
“Mnuchin said he’s hoping to work with Congress on ‘some minor technical corrections’ to the law, such as a drafting error that denies retailers and restaurants a tax break when they make renovations.”
