DC Attorney General Sues Facebook Over Privacy Concerns

The District Attorney for Washington, D.C. has filed a lawsuit against social media giant Facebook over privacy concerns related to the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

The lawsuit charges Facebook with “allowing data-mining firm Cambridge Analytica to improperly access data from as many as 87 million users,” The Associated Press reports.

“Facebook failed to protect the privacy of its users and deceived them about who had access to their data and how it was used,” D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine said in a statement, as The Hollywood Reporter notes.

Last week Facebook revealed about 7 million users photos were exposed to parties users did not intend, including photos they had not yet posted to Facebook.

And overnight The New York Times reported Facebook allowed selected tech companies expanded access for years, including allowing some to read users’ private messages, without their knowledge or consent.
