From nursing homes, to sausage casings to voting machines…
In late July Ivanka Trump shocked many across the nation and around the world by announcing she was shutting down her company immediately.
“I do not know when or if I will ever return to the business, but I do know that my focus for the foreseeable future will be the work I am doing here in Washington, so making this decision now is the only fair outcome for my team and partners,” the Advisor to the President, and First Daughter, said in a statement.
“She could have tried to sell the label,” some, including NCRM, wrote, wondering why she would let such a valuable asset die.
Ivanka Trump’s assertions were apparently insincere.
“Presidential adviser Ivanka Trump’s fashion brand won first trial approval for 16 new trademarks from the Chinese government in October,” Caroline Zhang, writing for CREW, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington wrote. The organization is a non-partisan watchdog.
These are “the largest number of new Chinese trademarks she has received in a single month since President Donald Trump took office,” CREW adds.
And while Ivanka Trump’s company applied for the trademarks in, 2016, CREW adds, they are “a potential conflict of interest.”
The trademarks also apply to an astonishing array of products.
“The newest Chinese trademarks cover fashion items including handbags, shoes, wedding dresses, and jewelry,” CREW reports. “The trademarks also cover items including nursing homes, sausage casing, and voting machines.”
It’s unclear why Ivanka Trump would want to hold trademarks for sausage casings and voting machines.
