President Donald Trump has no public appointments on his schedule Monday, Veterans Day, and is not expected to even visit Arlington Cemetery to honor the troops today. But he is tweeting up a storm, and getting a good deal of pushback, including on his false claim that Florida’s ballots are “massively infected” as he demands the Sunshine State’s Senate and governor’s seats should just be handed to Republicans.
But another tweet is getting a lot of attention, especially for its curious wording.
Last week Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell coined a new phrase for what Democrats will be able to do now that they have won the House. Instead of calling the constitutional system of checks and balances “oversight,” the Kentucky Republican referred to it as “presidential harassment.”
One week later, Trump has now grabbed on to that phrase and is using it to defend himself – and change the viewpoint of his supporters.
“The prospect of Presidential Harassment by the Dems is causing the Stock Market big headaches!” Trump tweeted later Monday morning.
That’s false on every level.
“Stock-market analysts have attributed factors including the Fed’s interest-rate strategy and Trump’s own trade wars for the recent stock-market volatility,” MarketWatch, a respected financial news outlet, reports.
On social media, many were quick to correct and mock the president, including Business Insider’s founder:
No, Mr. President. What is causing the stock market “headaches” is rising interest rates, rising recession risk, your ballooning deficit, your trade war, and the end of your tax-cut crack hit. https://t.co/M6HJuGE1lw

Oh, this one is rich. A very scared man.
How do you know it’s not the prospect of the president interfering in the FL election?
Or maybe it’s the same slump that’s been going on for months under your watch? https://t.co/o1FNYskRLz

“Presidential Harassment” is the term he’s running with for oversight and accountability huh?

We know the reasons for the correction that is just beginning. A negative earnings outlook, rising interest rates, global trade friction and supply chain disruptions. You affected ALL of that. Manipulating the market with a tweet like this is also illegal. #IMPEACH https://t.co/wxhhRTWxTj

In Insane Tweet Trump Baselessly Accuses Democratic Lawmaker of ‘Violence’
“Sorry, I don’t buy Rep. Tlaib’s tears. I have watched her violence, craziness and, most importantly, WORDS, for far too long,” Trump tweeted. “Now tears? She hates Israel and all Jewish people. She is an anti-Semite. She and her 3 friends are the new face of the Democrat Party. Live with it!”
It’s unclear what the president was referring to when he accused the Michigan Congresswoman of violence, but his other remarks appear to be directed at a press conference she held Monday.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib, first Palestinian-American woman in Congress, tears up while recounting her experiences visiting her family: “All I can do … as the granddaughter of a woman living in occupied territory is to elevate her voice by exposing the truth.” https://t.co/BflAp7aeir pic.twitter.com/0RbFwNoibO
— ABC News (@ABC) August 19, 2019
Rep. Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar “appeared at the news conference with Jewish leaders from their districts and called on all members of Congress to visit Israel and the West Bank,” Haaretz reports, noting the President’s Tuesday tweet. “Tlaib said that ‘all Americans should be distrubed’ [sic] by the decision not to let them enter.”
Trump publicly advocated for Israel to block Rep. Tlaib and other Democratic lawmakers from entering the country. Israel complied, although later said Tlaib could visit her elderly grandmother if she obeyed certain restrictions. She rejected the offer.
DeVos-Linked Christian Adoption Agency Exposed Dozens of Children’s Highly Sensitive Medical Data Online: Report
A Christian adoption agency linked to Trump Education Secretary Betsy DeVos that also has a disturbing history of anti-LGBTQ bias is once again under fire, this time over a report that it left exposed online the “highly sensitive” medical data from 40 of its potential child adoptees.
In addition to names and dates of birth, Bethany Christian Services allegedly left information ranging from HIV status to lab test results to “intellectual development” to number of teeth in “PDFs openly available on its website. Some PDFs were called ‘Children Medical Examination Records,'” VICE News reports.
The charity has multiple connections to the DeVos family: Brian DeVos, a cousin of Betsy DeVos’ husband, was a senior vice president at the organization; Maria DeVos has served on Bethany’s board; and the DeVos family foundations donated more than $6 million to the charity between 1998 and 2016, according to NPR.
Bethany Christian Services is a faith-based foster care and adoption contractor that says it works in 30 states across the country. The State of Michigan last year sued the organization after learning Bethany refused to work with LGBTQ people and same-sex parents. In April the organization, saying it was “disappointed,” agreed to reverse its policy for Michigan, and reportedly will place children in homes headed by LGBTQ people.
Last month Rewire News reported Bethany is one of two organizations that are now “receiving federal teen pregnancy prevention funding” that “promote medication abortion reversal, which the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists considers ‘unproven and unethical.'”
Bethany has benefited from the Trump administration’s family and child migrant “zero tolerance” separation policy. It has been awarded contracts to foster children – reportedly at the rate of $200 to $700 per night per child.
Internet Goes Wild Over ‘Obviously Drunk’ Larry Kudlow on Fox News: ‘He’s Lying While Slurring His Words’
Speculation was rampant on Sunday that White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow was drunk on Fox News.
“There is no economic recession in sight,” Kudlow insisted to Fox News Sunday host Dana Perino.
“Pretty sure Larry Kudlow is drunk on my TV right now… And he is lying while slurring his words,” one Twitter user noted.
“Kudlow is on fox news Sunday right now and from my 30 yrs of tending bar, I gotta say this guy appears drunk,” another user observed.
Some hinted at Kudlow’s addiction to cocaine in the 1990s.
