Mitch McConnell Calls Sexual Assault Survivors a ‘Mob’ and Says Anger From Democrats Will ‘Blow Over’
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell spoke with reporters late Saturday afternoon, less than an hour after Republicans pushed through the Supreme Court confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh.
The Kentucky Republican repeatedly referred to Democratic voters and sexual assault survivors protesting Kavanaugh as a “mob,” and assured reporters that anger from Democrats will “blow over” (video below.)
He also told reporters he’s not worried that Kavanaugh’s confirmation will alienate women from the GOP, nor is he concerned that the historically contentious battle with the Senate would affect the body he heads.
“This is a good day for America and an important day for the Senate,” Leader McConnell said. “We stood up for the presumption of innocence. We refuse to be intimidated by the mob of people that were coming after Republican members in their homes and the halls,” the Kentucky Republican said. “I couldn’t be prouder of the Senate Republican conference.”
Speaking to the historically narrow margin, 50-48, by which Kavanaugh was confirmed, McConnell joked, “I always thought landslides were kind of boring anyway.”
On Democrats’ anger McConnell assured reporters, “These things always blow over.”
