Watch: Seconds Into Kavanaugh Confirmation Hearing Democratic Senators Move to Adjourn

GOP Chairman Grassley Loses Control of Hearing

U.S. Senate Democrats just seconds into the opening of the Judiciary Committee’s hearing on Brett Kavanaugh‘s Supreme Court nomination moved to adjourn. They cited Republicans’ refusal to release over 100,000 documents related to Judge Kavanaugh’s time in government service and a document dump – 42,000 documents to be precise – late Monday night.

California Democratic Senator Kamala Harris was first to voice her objections. Sen. Any Klobuchar (D-MN) joined seconds later. Connecticut Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal moved for adjournment. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) demanded to know why documents were withheld, citing executive privilege, when the White House had not specifically said it would invoke executive privilege. And Sen.Patrick Leahy (D-VT) noted the National Archives was not allowed to do its job of providing Judge Kavanaugh’s records. Other Democrats, including Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) actively engaged in objecting to the hearing continuing.
