GOP Nominee Endorsed by Trump Jr. Wonders if Allegations Against Kavanaugh ‘Even if True’ Are Disqualifying
The Republican U.S. Congressman for North Dakota doesn’t think the allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh should be disqualifying, even if true, The Washington Post reports. Or, at least, he wonders if they should be.
Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-ND), who is running for a seat in the U.S. Senate against Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp, said on local TV station KX4 Monday that the allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh are “tragic,” “unfortunate,” and “terrible” – but not disqualifying.
The president’s son, Donald Trump, Jr., has endorsed, fundraised, and campaigned for Rep. Cramer.
“Even if it’s all true, does it disqualify him? It certainly means that he did something really bad 36 years ago, but does it disqualify him from the Supreme Court?” Kramer asked.
Last week Rep. Kramer attacked the allegations against Kavanaugh made by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, but appeared to downplay them.
“Nothing evidently happened in it all, even by her own accusation. Again, it was supposedly an attempt or something that never went anywhere,” Rep. Kramer told KMOX.
In reality, Dr. Blasey Ford said Judge Kavanaugh attempted to rape her, sexually assaulted her, and she literally feared for her life.
When asked to explain his remarks on Monday, Cramer said: “My point was is that there was no type of intercourse or anything like that. That was my point, that nothing happened in terms of a sexual, um, event, beyond, obviously, the attack.”
Last year Rep. Kramer came under fire for saying Democratic women in Congress who joined together to wear white to show support for women’s civil rights had a “disease.”
Earlier this year Rep. Cramer actively pursued and received the endorsement of Public Advocate of the United States, an anti-gay hate group “that links homosexuality to pedophilia and defends conversion therapy,” CNN reported.
The president’s son has tied himself closely to Rep. Cramer.
“Defeating Sen. Heitkamp is one of Don’s top priorities this cycle and he’s very much looking forward to getting on the trail in North Dakota to support Rep. Cramer’s campaign,” a source told The Washington Examiner earlier this month. “Few people have been bigger supporters of President Trump’s America First agenda than Congressman Cramer.”
