The President of the United States just threatened a group of private U.S. citizens, pro-football NFL players.
For over a year Trump has been attacking the players – including calling one of them a “son of a bitch” – for protesting the police killings of unarmed Black people, by respectfully taking a knee during the playing of the National Anthem.
Friday morning the president took to Twitter to go after the players, after a new NFL policy put into place on his direct urging bans players from protesting, ordering them to stand for the National Anthem. During pre-season games, some players are ignoring the new policy, angering Trump.
The President told the players to “be cool!” then threatened them, ordering their suspensions. As president, Trump has no legal or even moral authority to do so.
