Ivanka Trump Shuts Down Her Fashion Business

One day after the White House held a “Made in America” event Ivanka Trump is closing down her fashion business. President Donald Trump’s daughter, who serves as a Senior Advisor to the President, has been under great pressure since her goods are not made in the U.S. She’s also been criticized for using her position of power to improve her business. China has been very generous with patents to the Ivanka Trump label.

“Apparel sales at the brand, which Ms. Trump launched in its current form in 2014, soared in the year of the 2016 presidential election,” The Wall Street Journal reports. “But the company also became a lightning rod for critics of her father’s policies, with one anti-Trump group last year urging shoppers to boycott stores selling Trump-branded goods. Retailers including Nordstrom Inc. and Hudson’s Bay have stopped selling Ivanka Trump products in the past 18 months, citing their performance.”

The company has only about 18 employees.

“When we first started this brand, no one could have predicted the success that we would achieve,” Ivanka Trump said in a statement, CNBC reports. “After 17 months in Washington, I do not know when or if I will ever return to the business, but I do know that my focus for the foreseeable future will be the work I am doing here in Washington, so making this decision now is the only fair outcome for my team and partners.”

That’s not correct. She could have tried to sell the label. In fact, there’s no reason why she would have to have anything to do with the brand in order for it to continue.
