Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein minutes past noon announced the Dept. of Justice, via Robert Mueller’s probe, has produced indictments against 12 Russian government intelligence officers for hacking the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign, among others.
The indictment also states the Russians attempted or succeeded in hacking state government election systems.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller previously indicted 13 Russian nationals and three Russian companies on similar charges.
Rosenstein, in announcing the charges, concludes that he advised President Trump of this development earlier in the week. And yet, just hours ago, Trump told reporters while in Europe that he would “ask” Vladimir Putin about Russian “meddling,” but did not expect a confession. He then pivoted to saying it’s important to have a great relationship with Russia and Putin.
