THE RIGHT's NOT VERY BRIGHT
RNC Spokesperson Doesn’t Understand How Primaries Work, Gets Mocked Mercilessly on Social Media

The top spokesperson for the Republican National Committee made several embarrassing comments Tuesday night, revealing she doesn’t understand how primaries work, and paid the price by being mocked mercilessly on social media.
Kayleigh McEnany has a Harvard Law degree, but that didn’t stop her from making ridiculous remarks after 28-year old political newcomer Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez unseated 10-term Democratic incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in Tuesday’s primary race.
It all started after President Trump posted a ludicrous tweet, claiming Crowley lost because he wasn’t nice enough to the far right extremist president.
Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 27, 2018
But Ocasio-Cortez is much further to the left of Crowley, so Trump’s claim was ignorant at best. It wasn’t that Crowley lost because he wasn’t conservative enough, he lost, in part, because he wasn’t progressive enough.
Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. She ran on a platform of Medicare for all, free public college, abolishing ICE, and guaranteed federal jobs.
In response to Trump’s tweet, McEnany wrote:
STUNNING!
That so-called blue wave? More like a red tsunami… https://t.co/cIeI1II52U
— Kayleigh McEnany (@kayleighmcenany) June 27, 2018
Since Ocasio-Cortez won in one district, a very diverse and progressive New York district, McEnany’s remark made little sense.
Politico’s Jake Sherman challenged her ignorant comment:
What? He lost to a more progressive candidate. What are you talking about. https://t.co/VRkuSZ7Xi6
— Jake Sherman (@JakeSherman) June 27, 2018
So McEnany responded with another inane remark:
Right, Jake. Maybe you think socialism is a winning national platform for the Democratic Party going forward. The rest of America doesn’t… https://t.co/FUlZ3bLqYj
— Kayleigh McEnany (@kayleighmcenany) June 27, 2018
Again, we’re talking about one candidate in one very progressive district, not the whole country.
Sherman tried to explain why her remarks were ridiculous:
What I’m saying is that Crowley’s defeat is not emblematic of a red tsunami since he lost to someone who took positions to his left…. https://t.co/YNfFY8Sujc
— Jake Sherman (@JakeSherman) June 27, 2018
McEnany just dug in deeper, suggesting that one primary race applied to the entire Democratic Party:
Our party is celebrating this if you haven’t noticed. As Democrats lurch toward the failed socialist platform of Bernie Sanders, our Party’s prospects of electoral success are secured for many years to come… https://t.co/SiGWKzcRIG
— Kayleigh McEnany (@kayleighmcenany) June 27, 2018
On Twitter many mocked McEnany’s ignorance:
She… doesn’t know what a primary is https://t.co/oOZ0ElY1he

A red tsunami because… a democrat was defeated by… a democrat… in a democratic primary…? https://t.co/PKCdRd3m7e

Who wants to tell her that Ocasio-Cortez isn’t running for national office? https://t.co/KAddfEPA3b
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) June 27, 2018
Right, Kayleigh. Maybe you think embracing treason, pedophiles, serial sexual assault, racism, sexism, homophobia and actual-Nazis is a winning platform for the Republican Party going forward. The rest of America doesn’t. https://t.co/n5fekCQZj1

lol. she thinks Republicans voted out Crowley….or something https://t.co/TKBUsj1jgC

Gonna go ahead and bet every cent I will ever earn for the rest of my life that Donald Trump will not carry that district. https://t.co/GOH3uBziZ3

My god – do you need a conservatorship…someone to handle your daily tasks? It was a Democratic primary, not a general election. https://t.co/gNR28oQxMH
— Kathy Griffin (@kathygriffin) June 27, 2018
Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t need to win the nation, just #NY14, one of the most liberal districts in Congress. Just like we picked conservative Jeff Van Drew for #NJ02 and economic populist Richard Ojeda for #WV03.
Picking candidates tuned to the district is what a winning party does. https://t.co/gZgxyQBvH5

This woman just said that a Dem *primary* win by a socialist candidate was part of a “red tsunami.”
I suppose she’s trying to save face now. https://t.co/rOMMeBONKB

Imagine being this stupid. I can’t wait to see her face when everything she believes in goes up in smoke right before her eyes. You’ve lost an entire generation Kayleigh, it’s not going to end well for you. https://t.co/fccLonBOUV

The election result just shows ppl are clamoring for change and it’s time for dat in the @DNC. It doesn’t guarantee any form of victory for @GOP who is leaning far right currently. Ur party shd be more scared rather than celebrating. https://t.co/gmYA4X3eW1
