The owner of the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia explained why she ejected White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders from the establishment on Friday evening.
Speaking with The Washington Post, owner Stephanie Wilkinson acknowledged that she may have threatened the economic health of her small business with her principled stand, but said she would do it again.
“I’m not a huge fan of confrontation,” Wilkinson said. “I have a business, and I want the business to thrive. This feels like the moment in our democracy when people have to make uncomfortable actions and decisions to uphold their morals.”
Wilkinson recounted how she was at home when she got a call informing her that Sanders was dining at the Red Hen, under a reservation made in her husband’s name. She raced to the business to investigate.
Wilkinson explained that she queried her employees about what to do, knowing several employees were gay and all the staff had all watched the press secretary evade questions while defending Trump’s border separation policy.
“Tell me what you want me to do. I can ask her to leave,” she told her employees. “They said yes.”
The owner politely asked Sanders to step out on the patio “for a word.”
“I was babbling a little, but I got my point across in a polite and direct fashion,” Wilkinson said. “I explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty, and compassion, and cooperation.”
After explaining her reasoning, she said, “I’d like to ask you to leave.”
Sanders stepped back inside to collect her belongings, then left the establishment, later complaining about her ejection on Twitter.
“We just felt there are moments in time when people need to live their convictions,” the owner explained. “This appeared to be one.”
Despite the backlash from Trump supporters, Wilkinson seems unworried.
“Whatever happens, we will soldier on,” Wilkinson said. “Absolutely, yes, I would have done the same thing again.”

Robert Mueller Will Testify Before Two House Committees
The Democrats may be inching closer toward impeachment of Donald Trump if this latest move has anything to show for itself. Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller was subpoenaed to testify before two House committees – and has accepted.
Mueller had previously said he would not testify post-investigation findings because his 448-page written report “should speak for itself.” However, he’s since changed his tune.
“Americans have demanded to hear directly from the Special Counsel so they can understand what he and his team examined, uncovered, and determined about Russia’s attack on our democracy, the Trump campaign’s acceptance and use of that help, and President Trump and his associates’ obstruction of the investigation into that attack,” House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler and House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff said in a joint statement.
“He was and is deeply reluctant to come testify, but nonetheless he has agreed to respect the subpoena,” Schiff told CNN on Tuesday evening.
“This will be an opportunity to amplify the message of the report, and then, you know, we’ll let the chips fall where they may,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat on the Judiciary Committee who has pushed for opening an impeachment inquiry.
Mueller will appear to potentially discuss his investigation’s findings before Congress on July 17 in back-to-back hearings with the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees. Mueller is expected to provide additional knowledge about the Trump-Russia election interference and 10 counts of possible obstruction of justice by the sitting president of the United States.

Liberals Are All in Defending New Congresswoman Who Declared Democrats Are ‘Going to Impeach the Motherf*cker’
Newly-sworn-in U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) is one of the first two Muslim women Members of Congress. And after a day of celebrating, voting, and more celebrating, she told supporters Thursday night that House Democrats are going to impeach President Trump.
Except that’s not exactly what she said.
Congresswoman Tlaib at a MoveOn event shared a conversation she had with her son.
“And when your son looks at you and says, ‘Mama look, you won. Bullies don’t win,’ and I said, ‘Baby, they don’t,’ because we’re gonna go in there and we’re going to impeach the motherf****r.”
Here’s the video:

On the right, conservatives and Republicans are furious.
Here’s Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, aghast, expressing his faux outrage on Fox News:
“Look what she said to her son in a rally she thought was private last night.”
Ends by saying he wants to be called “Republican leader,” not “minority leader.” pic.twitter.com/Bcr38wSZlW

On the left, liberals and Democrats on social media (not all, but mostly) are thrilled – and only too happy to push back against the right, reminding them of the record of the man in the White House and the reason they say they like him so much.
This tweet pretty much sums it all up:
Wingnuts on “Grab them by the pussy”: I like Trump, because there’s no filter
On “Impeach the motherfucker”: I’M SO TRIIIIIGGGGEEERRRED! https://t.co/N4OMOxRMon
— Deep State Wisco 🏴☠️ (@Wisco) January 4, 2019
Here are some on the left (presumably – we haven’t checked their political leanings) reminding America what’s really important:
If you are more upset by the word “motherfucker” than you are by Trump tossing children in cages, then fuck you. You are a garbage person.
— Ian Millhiser (@imillhiser) January 4, 2019
I agree. She should have said “pathological lying motherfucker”
— Jack Evans (@Jack4Evanss) January 4, 2019
I guarantee you that people from ‘shit hole’ countries and women striving not to be grabbed by their ‘pussy’ are hoping ‘motherfucker’ Trump is impeached tomorrow.
— Jeremy Newberger (@jeremynewberger) January 4, 2019
Rashida Tlaib should say she’ll apologize for calling the president “motherfucker” as soon as there are no longer any kids languishing and dying in American detention camps.
No civility in words without civility in deeds.
— laura olin (@lauraolin) January 4, 2019
Trump put babies in cages and an attempted rapist on the Supreme Court.
Motherfucker is a polite term for what he is, tbh.
— Kaili Joy Gray (@KailiJoy) January 4, 2019
The government is still shut down because the president isn’t getting the wall he said Mexico will pay for and a lot of y’all are more concerned about a woman calling him a motherfucker.
— “Celia” (@_celia_bedelia_) January 4, 2019
Brother, when I saw the video, my fist went into the air a la Freddie Mercury, I immediately developed a girl crush, & I’m now searching for a t-shirt w/her face & those words on it. I certainly hopes she gets that motherfucker! #GoMama

Watch: Massive Protest Against Trump in Pittsburgh as Politicians Refuse to Be Seen With President
‘President Trump You Are Not Welcome in Pittsburgh’
The mayor of Pittsburgh and others affected by Saturday’s massacre of 11 people observing the Sabbath in The Tree of Life synagogue asked President Donald Trump to not come visit them today, but the President refused to listen. And now he is paying the price.
No local, state, or national politicians greeted Air Force One Tuesday afternoon. No politicians will join the president as he makes his way into town to “pay his respects,” as the White House said.
Community leaders stressed that today they are holding funerals for the mass shooting victims, who were gunned down in an anti-Semitic hate crime terror attack. Law enforcement is stretched to the limit already. Having to protect the President on top of protecting funeral-goers and protestors would require too many police officers.
But the President wanted a photo op, one week before the midterms.
“Trump, accompanied by the First Lady and prominent Jewish members of his administration — including daughter Ivanka, son-in-law Jared Kushner and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin — arrived in the stricken city just before 4 p.m. ET,” CNN reports. “He was expected to visit with wounded law enforcement officers and pay respects to the dead amid ongoing funeral observances for the mostly elderly victims. He was due back in Washington in a matter of hours.”
Saturday’s mass shooting, the deadliest attack on Jewish people in the history of the United States, was carried out by a man reportedly screaming “All Jews must die!”
Right now a very respectful and well-organized protest against President Trump is taking place, as CBS affiliate WRGB is showing live on Facebook.
