Trump Now Says He May Commute Sentence of Ex-Governor Who Tried to Sell Obama’s Senate Seat

Trump Is Sending a Strong Message to Those Who May Harm Him That He Will Pardon Them – While Attacking Jim Comey and Barack Obama

President Donald Trump says he is considering commuting the sentence of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who was convicted for trying to sell Barack Obama’s Senate seat after he was elected president. Trump made the stunning statement barely an hour after tweeting he was pardoning a far right wing anti-gay extremist who peddles conspiracy theories about Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Trump also told reporters late Thursday morning aboard Air Force One he was considering pardoning Martha Stewart, who was convicted and served time for lying to the FBI. Stewart was prosecuted by Jim Comey, who Trump fired for pursuing the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.

Blagojevich was prosecuted by Patrick Fitzgerald, then a U.S. Attorney. Fitzgerald was later appointed as a Special Counsel for the U.S. Department of Justice, by Comey.

Currently, Fitzgerald serves as a private attorney for Comey.
