Ivanka Trump is under fire for being “tone deaf” after she tweeted a photo of herself Sunday morning lovingly holding her child as the top news story over the past few days has been about her father’s administration, of which she is a part, has lost 1500 migrant children.
President Donald Trump has mandated that undocumented immigrant parents coming across the U.S. border, even those legitimately seeking asylum, have their children taken away from them and housed in separated facilities, and even given to foster parents, as they are arrested and prosecuted for the “crime” of trying to make lives better for their families.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen admitted to Congress that 1475 migrant children have been lost. The federal government has no idea where they are, and thus will not be returning them to their parents. The New York Times notes there are concerns those children may end up in the arms of human traffickers.
Immediately after the First Daughter, who also serves as Senior Advisor to the President, posted her tweet, she was met by Americans outraged over the mishandling of children. As she has with most Trump administration scandals, she has not addressed the crisis of the lost children.
