‘Morning Joe’ Mercilessly Mocks ‘Lying’ Donald Trump’s Claim Obama Destroyed America’s Borders
The crew at “Morning Joe” on Wednesday found themselves flabbergasted by President Donald Trump’s claims that former President Barack Obama single-handedly destroyed the U.S.-Mexico border through executive actions.
Reacting to the president’s rambling public statement on Tuesday about immigration policies, in which he declared that “we don’t have laws” to stop people from entering the country illegally, host Joe Scarborough had guest Steven Rattner show the audience charts that demonstrated illegal border crossings actually fell dramatically under Obama’s presidency.
“When you look at what’s going on with border crossings, you might say to yourself, ‘Why are we talking about a wall?’” Rattner said. “Let’s start by seeing what’s happening to illegal border crossings.”
“Wait, hold on a second — that’s going down!” Scarborough sarcastically exclaimed when he looked at the chart.
Scarborough then zeroed in on when illegal border crossings really peaked — and he noted that they topped out in 2000 when U.S. Customs and Border Protection recorded 1.6 million illegal crossings. Since then, however, the number has gone steadily downward — and it really plummeted under Obama’s presidency.
“It’s going actually straight down when Barack Obama is President of the United States,” Scarborough said. “That line is why Hispanic groups and immigrant groups gave Barack Obama holy hell for eight years. When Donald Trump is talking about this being a Barack Obama problem, he’s just — again, what’s the word of the day? — lying.”
