‘Chamberlain Would Be Proud!’ Trump Mocked for Latest Tweet That Proves Appeasing Putin Is His Top Priority

President Trump is being vociferously mocked and attacked as “DO NOT CONGRATULATE-gate” is well into day two. After new broke that the U.S. President congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on “winning” re-election when the election was neither free nor fair, and after all the attacks Russia has made against America and our closest allies, many in the U.S. were outraged.

That outrage expanded after news broke Tuesday evening, revealing that not only did Trump congratulate Putin, but his national security advisors specifically warned him not to. “DO NOT CONGRATULATE” reportedly was written on his briefing materials, exasperating the break in protocol.

Wednesday afternoon, Trump posted two tweets defending his actions, attacking his predecessors, and trying to appear Reaganesque.

The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman, who has broken many stories about Trump, offered her take on why Trump weighed in:

Some mocked Trump’s attempt to look like Reagan:

And many were furious with Trump’s claim that “Getting along with Russia … is a good thing, not a bad thing,” calling it “appeasement,” and even comparing Trump to the late 1930’s-era UK Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, who hoped giving Hitler what he wanted would appease him.
