At least nine companies have pulled their ads from Laura Ingraham’s show, most after the Fox News host apologized for mocking Parkland student survivor David Hogg. On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Friday, advertising executive Donny Deutsch called Ingraham a “reprehensible,” while Joe Scarborough speculated that Fox News executives must be “grappling” with whether or not to pull the plug on Ingraham’s show.
“She’s a reprehensible human being, and the good news here is the advertisers will speak,” Deutsch said. “You might see Laura Ingraham saying bye-bye.”
Hew also repeatedly suggested Ingraham lacks “basic human decency,” and said, “We can’t have animals on the air attacking children.”
As the former CEO of a major advertising company, Deutsch explained to viewers right now CEO’s from companies that advertise on Ingraham’s show are being flooded with letters asking them if they support her behavior.
“It’s no longer, are you part of the debate?” Deutsch told viewers, as Raw Story noted. “If you’re endorsing her, you’re endorsing her behavior, saying this is okay to dump on millennials, this is okay to insult children who have been through a tragedy, and any CEO at this point — I don’t care where you are politically — is going to call up their chief marketing officer and say, ‘You know that $400,000 you spent on Ingraham? Even if you don’t take it off Fox, move it off, because no advertiser is going to be in a position to say, ‘I’m defending that.’”
Thursday night ThinkProgress founder Judd Legum tweeted, “40 minutes into Laura Ingraham show and there have been 2 commercial breaks. Some major national advertisers sticking with her (Gillette, Advil, Progressive Insurance) But there was also a spot from the Ad Council, which is filler for when you can’t sell ads.”
