Wynn Was RNC Finance Chair for Nearly an Entire Year
Steve Wynn, accused of inappropriate sexual behavior in a Wall Street Journal article that included graphic details of his alleged actions, has just resigned as Chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts. He has already resigned from or been fired from his position as finance chair of the Republican National Committee, only after tremendous public pressure.
Asked if the RNC would be returning the donations Wynn has made, RNC chair Ronna McDaniel refused to say yes last month – she would only say that he deserves “due process” – which will come only if he is arrested and charged with a crime. It is not known that any criminal complaints have been made or if there has been, is, or will be an investigation into his alleged actions.
“It is with a collective heavy heart, that the board of directors of Wynn Resorts today accepted the resignation of our founder, CEO and friend Steve Wynn,” non-executive director of the board Boone Wayson said in a statement, as CNBC first reported. “Steve Wynn is an industry giant. He is a philanthropist and a beloved leader and visionary. He played the pivotal role in transforming Las Vegas into the entertainment destination it is today. He also assembled a world-class team of executives that will continue to meet the high standards of excellence that Steve Wynn created and the Wynn brand has come to represent.”
The statement makes no reference to the allegations of “decades-long” misconduct. The Wall Street Journal reported it contacted over 150 people for its story, and says there were allegations from “dozens of people.”
Wynn reportedly has donated millions to the RNC, Republican candidates, and GOP groups.
McDaniel waged war on the DNC over Harvey Weinstein’s donations last year. Unlike Wynn, Weinstein was not even a board member or executive.Â
