RNC Waged War Against Democrats Over Weinstein Donations – What Will They Do Now About Steve Wynn?
‘Whose Side Is Hillary Clinton on: Harvey Weinstein’s or His Victims?’ RNC Chair Demanded
Last October the Republican National Committee waged war against Democratic politicians and the Democratic National Committee, demanding they return all donations from accused serial sex abuser Harvey Weinstein. For weeks the GOP’s social media machine raged about “dirty Weinstein cash,” but according to a Wall Street Journal article out Friday afternoon, the RNC’s own finance chairman Steve Wynn has now been accused of sexual misconduct by “dozens,” including several former employees.
In early October the RNC started posting tweets like this:
Some Hill Democrats have given back their dirty Weinstein cash, but the DNC is still holding onto its $246,000… pic.twitter.com/fpLD7eouL1
— GOP (@GOP) October 6, 2017
And this:
The Weinstein scandal put Hollywood’s hypocrisy in broad daylight. RT if you agree the DNC should return his donations.
— GOP (@GOP) October 9, 2017
They even created a video demanding “Return all the Weinstein money.”
Democrats: put your money where your mouth is. Return all the Weinstein money. pic.twitter.com/3uQN0dm76A

RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel led the attack:
If the DNC truly stands up for women like they say they do, then returning Weinstein’s dirty money should be a no-brainer.
— Ronna McDaniel (@GOPChairwoman) October 6, 2017
Even though the election was long over, McDaniel targeted Hillary Clinton:
Whose side is Hillary Clinton on: Harvey Weinstein’s or his victims?
— Ronna McDaniel (@GOPChairwoman) October 7, 2017
Repeatedly:
Where is Hillary Clinton’s condemnation of Weinstein, even the NYT is criticizing her https://t.co/qTXYYfPbJ1
— Ronna McDaniel (@GOPChairwoman) October 7, 2017
The Wall Street Journal reports it contacted over 150 people in creating its report. The details are extraordinarily specific and grotesque.
Wynn is heavily tied to President Donald Trump. He is a huge donor to the GOP, and served as Trump’s inauguration committee vice-chair before becoming finance chair of the RNC.
At the White House last July, according to a released transcript, President Trump lavished praise on Wynn, who was present at what was billed as a “Jobs Announcement.”
“Another big investor in our country — Steve Wynn, would you stand up? (Applause.) He’s raising so much money for our great Republican Party. Andrea, please stand up. Please. Thank you. Thank you, Steve. Done a great job. You’ve done a great job, Steve. Thank you.”
Washington Post national reporter Mark Berman notes today, “Just last weekend, Wynn and the RNC chair hosted a Mar-a-Lago celebration marking the first anniversary of Trump’s inauguration.”
Buzzfeed legal editor Chris Geidner notes on New Year’s Eve Wynn celebrated with President Trump, who said: “I wanna thank the great Steve Wynn, who’s back here some place — where’s Steve? there’s Steve — He’s doing a beautiful job.”
