‘Our Thoughts and Prayers Are With the Victims and Their Families’
Just two hours after a shooter attacked a Florida high school, injuring at least 14 people and reportedly killing several others members of President Trump’s cabinet tweeted out their “thoughts and prayers,” but offered no possibility of taking action to reduce gun violence, gun deaths, mass shootings, or school shootings. This year alone there have been 19 school shootings.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel is calling the mass shooting “catastrophic.”
It is not yet known how many fatalities there have been.
Dept. of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, one of the Cabinet members who has the greatest ability to help reduce gun violence, offered nothing that will help prevent future incidents.
Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson similarly offered just “thoughts and prayers”:

Minutes earlier President Trump had tweeted his “prayers and condolences.”
The U.S. Congress will soon take up a bill allowing cross-border concealed carry – if you have a concealed gun permit in Florida it would be valid in, say, Massachusetts or California, or any other state, regardless of that state’s requirements.
