White House and First Lady Issue Scathing Responses to Bombshell Book
‘Trashy Tabloid Fiction’ Sarah Huckabee Sanders Says
The White House and the First Lady’s office have just responded to a bombshell book various media outlets have excerpted today. Michael Wolff’s “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” is based on more than 200 interviews with various people in the Trump administration, and includes stunning on-the-record remarks from former Trump White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon.
“This book is filled with false and misleading accounts from individuals who have no access or influence with the White House,” Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
She blasted those who spoke with Wolff, a veteran journalist who says the Trump team, including the president, gave him unprecedented access.
“Participating in a book that can only be described as trashy tabloid fiction exposes their sad desperate attempts at relevancy,” Huckabee Sanders sniped.
Politico Magazine’s editor-in-chief made this observation:
Trump … participated in the book. https://t.co/g9CYjuysKZ

In the book, and in an excerpt he wrote for New York Magazine, Wolff says Trump’s plan was to lose, not to win. He says Melania Trump cried when her husband won, as very few inside the campaign thought he would.
In response, Stephanie Grisham, Communications Director for the First Lady, offered this statement:
“The book is clearly going to be sold in the bargain fiction section. Mrs. Trump supported her husband’s decision to run for President and in fact, encouraged him to do so. She was confident he would win and was very happy when he did.”
Earlier today President Trump himself blasted Steve Bannon, who also was the CEO of his presidential campaign.
“Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my Presidency. When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind,” Trump said in a lengthy statement.
