NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio: ‘Cowardly Act of Terror’ in Manhattan – 8 Dead, 15 Injured

Officials Urge New Yorkers to Continue Live Their Lives as Normal, but to Stay ‘Vigilant’

A New York City Police officer stopped a suspect who is believed to have killed 8 people and injured another 15 people, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters Tuesday just before 5:30 PM. The mayor called today’s incident a “cowardly act of terror.”

The suspect allegedly drove a rented Home Depot van down a bike path in lower Manhattan, for about 10 to 15 blocks.

Governor Andrew Cuomo praised first responders, denouncing “these lone wolves” who commit acts of terror.

Cuomo promised more police around town as he called New York City an “international city” and said that makes it a target for terrorists. He said if we change how we live our lives “they win and we lose.”

To New Yorkers, Gov. Cuomo said, “live your life.”

The incident began at 3:05 PM, New York City Police Commissioner James O’Neill told reporters. A police officer ultimately shot the suspect in the abdomen. “This incident is over,” the commissioner said, calling it “a terrorist event.”
