Watch: President and First Lady Meet With Hurricane Harvey Victims
Trump Tells Reporters ‘Things Are Working Out Well’
President Donald Trump and the First Lady right now are meeting with some of the victims of Hurricane Harvey. On Tuesday Trump and his team traveled to Corpus Christi and Austin, but drew nationwide criticism for bragging about the size of the crowd that turned out to see him, and for not meeting with any of the historic hurricane’s victims, and for not even mentioning them. Even Republicans chastised Trump for a glaring lack of empathy.Â

Determined to fix that, Trump Saturday morning took Air Force One out to Houston, which was among the hardest hit by Harvey. He visited with children and families, posed for pictures, and even threw one young little girl in the air – something few if any Americans have ever seen.

Missing from this trip was Trump’s attempt to sell his own camapign merchndise, like his $40 USA cap which he wore to Texas on Tuesday. Also missing was the First Lady’s “FLOTUS” hat. Today, instead, she chose one that simply says “Texas.”

This was definitely a trip that was important for millions of victims to see, but it was equally important for this failing president to right at least one wrong with the American people.

“A lot of love,” Trump said he saw when meeting the families. “We saw a lot of happiness,” he added.
It does not appear the victims shared their stories of loss with Trump, who seemed intent on making the day one of positive stories.Â
“Things are working out well,” Trump told reporters.
“As tough as this was, it’s been a wonderful thing, I think, even for the country to watch. It’s been beautiful,” Trump said, then telling others to “have a good time” because he was “going to be doing a little help over here.”
Trump also told reporters relief efforts have been “really well received,” and noted, “even by you guys,” meaning the press.
