Trump Brags About Missouri Win, Says Mexico Will Pay for Wall by ‘Reimbursement/Other’ and Berates U.S. Neighbors

4th Most Populous U.S. City Facing Catastrophe

As the fourth most populous city in the nation continues to face catastrophic flooding, with at least five known deaths and more than 20 inches of rain within the last 24 hours, the President of the Untied States has turned his attention to his 2016 victory in Missouri, the border wall and attacking our country’s neighbors.

Trump began his morning by promoting a right wing extremist’s book, but did subsequently tweet about the chaos in Texas. “I will be going to Texas as soon as that trip can be made without causing disruption,” the president announced. “The focus must be on life and safety.”

The announcement was a lead-in for his upcoming Missouri trip to discuss tax reform, a state Trump noted he “won by a lot in ’16.” He soon turned to an attack Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill. “Dem C.M. is opposed to big tax cuts,” he wrote. “Republican will win S!”

“S” likely meant “seat,” as McCaskill is facing re-election. The senator said in a statement that she welcomes the president’s visit, noting that tax reform “is an area of which I’m optimistic President Trump and I will find common ground.”

Trump turned to Hurricane Harvey again. “Wow,” he wrote. “Now experts are calling #Harvey a once in 500 year flood! We have an all out effort going, and going well!”

The president’s focus then returned to Mexico and his proposed border wall. Trump recently threatened to shut down the government should Congress (not Mexico, as he frequently promised) not pay for his campaign promise.

“With Mexico being one of the highest crime Nations in the world, we must have THE WALL,” the president utilized caps-lock. “Mexico will pay for it through reimbursement/other.”

Of note, the crowds at Trump’s campaign rallies did not chant that Mexico would pay for the wall through “reimbursement/other.” Additionally, in a leaked transcript with Mexico’s President Peña Nieto, Trump begged the country’s leader to no longer assert that Mexico wouldn’t finance Trump’s venture.

Finally, Trump turned his attention to NAFTA, which he called “the worst trade deal ever made.” He noted that the U.S. was undergoing a renegotiation process with Mexico and Canada, noting that “both being very difficult, may have to terminate?”

NAFTA, or the North American Free Trade Agreement, is the trilateral trade agreement between our country and our neighbors. Its goal was to reduce or eliminate tariffs on products in key industries.

The Governor of Texas this morning had other issues on his mind, discussing in-depth the effects of the flooding in Houston as a result of Hurricane Harvey. In an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Governor Greg Abbott called the flooding possibly the worst Houston had ever suffered.
