Sarah Huckabee Sanders Can’t Answer Why Trump Will Shut Down Gov’t if Congress Does Not Pay for His Wall
Whatever Happened to ‘Who’s Going to Pay for It?’ ‘Mexico!’
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked repeatedly why President Donald Trump recently threatened to shut down the federal government if Congress does not fully fund his border wall with Mexico, when his top campaign promise was Mexico would pay for the wall. She refused to give a straight answer to the question. Three times.
Asked during the daily press briefing Thursday – the first in over three weeks – why he was reneging on his repeated campaign promises that Mexico would pay for the wall “100%,” Huckabee Sanders totally ignored the question.
Instead, she said only that Trump believes it is a national security issue and necessary for the protection of America.
“The president is committed to making this happen and we’re going to push forward.”

Asked later the same question, and noting that Trump is not saying Mexico is going to pay for the wall, Huckabee Sanders snidely said, “He hasn’t said they wouldn’t either.”

Asked a third time by a third reporter, Huckabee Sanders refused to answer the question further.

Having Mexico pay for his multi-billion dollar wall was the number one campaign promise that Donald Trump made to voters. Blithely reneging on it, and not even acknowledging he is doing so is a stunning development.
