‘What Happens the Next Time the Homosexuals Want to Walk Through an American City?’ Asks Star Parker
Star Parker says the Confederate flag and the LGBTQ pride flag “represent the exact same thing.” The right wing Christian conservative political activist lashed out at what she repeatedly called the “alt-left” on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday morning.Â
Parker was brought on the show to offer support for President Donald Trump and his horrific, implicit support of white supremacism. And she did just that.
Fox News‘ Steve Doocy read a statement from House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to Parker: “It shouldn’t take the president of the United States two days to summon the basic decency to condemn murder and violence by Nazis and white supremacists.”Â
Parker, who has espoused vile, anti-LGBT remarks, refuted Pelosi’s comments, and made sure to throw in an attack on “homosexuals” for good measure.
“That is not what happened,” she told Doocy, as Media Matters reports. “Nancy Pelosi is exploiting an opportunity that they think will play to their side. On Saturday, there were two sides that were in an American city that were — then it was escalating very rapidly. No, the question became then, well, do you denounce the one part of it?”
“But you know what’s really interesting and really incredible irony here is the same people that are demanding that the Confederate flag comes down are the same people that are insisting that the rainbow flag goes up.”
“These two flags represent the exact same thing,” Parker said, as if there were any comparison between an icon of hate and oppression and an icon of love and inclusion. “That certain people groups are not welcome here. So if Nancy Pelosi wants to say that we’re going to start shutting down First Amendment rights of a certain group of people, then what happens the next time that the homosexuals want to walk through an American city and protest and counter protesters come out?”
Parker couldn’t be more wrong.
The Confederate flag is the representation of a society that bought and sold people, chained them as property, whipped and raped them and treated them with no humanity. It represents slavery, racism, and hate. It represents  one of the very worst parts of America’s history.
The LGBT Pride flag represents love, community, equality, and inclusion. It does not say that anyone is not welcome. It does say treat people with respect.
