‘No Good Comes From Violence’ Melania Trump Tweets
First Lady Melania Trump has just weighed in on the white supremacist hate rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, taking to Twitter to denounce the violence, but offering a carefully worded statement designed to not offend.
“Our country encourages freedom of speech, but let’s communicate w/o hate in our hearts. No good comes from violence,” the First Lady, who rarely makes public statements, said via Twitter. She included the hashtag #Charlottesville.
The statement could have been viewed as supportive of any group, or none. It did not take a specific stand against white supremacy or any of the other extremist groups that converged in Charlottesville.
Meanwhile, the President of the United States, who often has a hair-trigger response to events around the nation, or even around the world, has said absolutely nothing about the thousands of white supremacists who massed on the college town to protest the planned removal of a Confederate statue of Robert E. Lee.
Police, under orders from the City of Charlottesville and the Governor of Virginia, shut down the hate rally just before noon, when it was scheduled to begin. Thousands had gathered early, and many incidents of violent clashes erupted.Â
