Thousands of white supremacists are massing in Charlottesville, Virginia's Emancipation Park to protest the scheduled removal by the town of a Confederate statue of Robert E. Lee. It is expected to be the largest gathering of white supremacists, white nationalists, neo-Nazis, neo-Confederates, and members of the so-called "alt-right" according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Friday night hundreds of white supremacists marched on the Grounds of the University of Virginia, almost entirely unopposed by law enforcement. They were met by students gathering in a nearby church, organizing protests against Saturday's rally. Violence erupted and images posted to social media show the students largely unprotected by law enforcement and campus security.
Right now, as this video by HuffPost national reporter Christopher Mathias shows, the vile, disgusting white supremacists are in Emancipation Park, chanting, "Fuck you faggots!"
A large number of people and diverse groups opposed to the white supremacists are protesting their presence.
Some are chanting, "We're here, we're gay, we fight the KKK!" as this video by HuffPost senior reporter Andy Campbell shows:
