One Dead, Many Injured After Car Plowed Into Counter-Protestors at White Supremacist Rally

‘I Am Heartbroken That a Life Has Been Lost Here’

Charlottesville, Virginia Mayor Mike Signer says one person has died after a car plowed into a group of counter-protestors after state and local officials ordered a white supremacist rally shut down.

The Associated Press confirms the death, and adds 19 were also injured.

Police have not officially stated if the incident was an accident or intentional, but multiple videos taken by witnesses on the scene appear to show it was not accidental. The car rapidly backed up and tried to escape.

Minutes ago President Donald Trump refused to denounce white supremacism or white nationalism, yet said hate, bigotry, and violence comes from “many sides.”

The Daily Progress, the local Charlottesville news media outlet, has published important but disturbing images of the attack. We encore those interested to take a look.

BNO News was first to report the mayor’s announcement.
