‘Trump Is Going to Resign’ Says Co-Author of ‘Art of the Deal’

‘Would Be Amazed if He Survives Till End of the Year’

The man who co-authored Donald Trump’s book, Trump: The Art of the Deal, says the President is going to resign – and Americans may not have to wait very long for it to happen. Tony Schwartz is viewed as one of the few people who know Trump the best – and is willing to talk about him.

The circle is closing at blinding speed. Trump is going to resign and declare victory before Mueller and congress leave him no choice,” Schwartz said via Twitter on Wednesday.

“Trump’s presidency is effectively over. Would be amazed if he survives till end of the year. More likely resigns by fall, if not sooner,” he added. “Trump must be isolated. Resistance every day. The end is near but must keep pressure high.”

In the months before the 2016 election, Schwartz came out publicly to denounce Trump, saying he regretted helping create the myth that Trump is a great and charming businessman.

“I put lipstick on a pig,” Schwartz told The New Yorker. “I feel a deep sense of remorse that I contributed to presenting Trump in a way that brought him wider attention and made him more appealing than he is.”

He went on, “I genuinely believe that if Trump wins and gets the nuclear codes there is an excellent possibility it will lead to the end of civilization.”

If he were writing “The Art of the Deal” today, Schwartz said, it would be a very different book with a very different title. Asked what he would call it, he answered, “The Sociopath.”

Of course, no one knows if Trump is even considering resigning. His performance on Tuesday, when he reverted to his “both sides” are to blame for the violence at Saturday’s white supremacist rally, was particularly revealing – both of his true beliefs, and the level of extreme anger and frustration he is experiencing.

The following day, Trump recalled Vice President Pence from his international trip in Central and South America – something practically unheard of given there’s no actual, immediate disaster facing the country. The White House claims Trump cut short Pence’s trip so the two could put their heads together on South Asia, which literally makes zero sense. Today they are expected to travel to Camp David, a setting Trump has visited only once before.
