Congressman to Propose Legislation Preventing Trump from Forming ‘Cyber Security Unit’ with Russia
“POTUS Defies Common Senseâ€
Congressman Brendan Boyle, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, announced today that he will move to introduce legislation preventing Donald Trump from forming any type of “cyber security unit†with Russia.Â
The president personally announced his proposed joint effort on Twitter early this morning before heading to his golf club again:
Putin & I discussed forming an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that election hacking, & many other negative things, will be guarded..

“President Trump’s social media statement today that he would involve Russian Vladimir Putin in a cybersecurity effort to ‘protect our elections’ defies any shred of basic human logic and common sense,†Boyle said in a statement.
“Under no circumstances can we allow the Russian government to learn our strategy and techniques for defending our cyber security,†he continued. “This week during the congressional session, I will introduce legislation to prohibit the United States from participating in any type [of] joint working group with Russia on cybersecurity efforts.â€
“Hiring Mr. Putin to protect our electoral process is like a group of homeowners hiring a security guard to protect them after that individual has broken into their homes.â€Â
Boyle also announced his intent via Twitter:
POTUS defies common sense. This week I will introduce bill that would ban ANY joint effort with Russia on cyber security @Lawrence https://t.co/18o3eHG3aT

Trump’s statements today drew ire from both Republicans and Democrats alike, as 17 U.S. government intelligence agencies have unanimously agreed that Russia worked to undermine our democracy in the 2016 presidential election.
