BREAKING: Priebus Out as Chief of Staff – Trump Announces Homeland Security Head as Replacement

Trump Calls John Kelly ‘A True Star of My Administration’

President Donald Trump has just accepted the forced resignation of his Chief of Staff, Reince Priebus, and announced he is replacing him with the head of Homeland Security, former General John Kelly.

MSNBC’s Chuck Todd notes the President’s tweets come from Air Force One.

Trump minutes later posted a “thank you” tweet to Priebus:

According to several reporters, Priebus handed in his resignation but Trump wanted to make the move faster than Priebus did:

The move is effectively a firing. The New York Times reports Priebus “was pushed out.”

It comes on the heels of an embarrassing series of personal attacks by Trump’s brand new Communications Director, Anthony Scaramucci, including falsely alleging that Priebus leaked his financial documents, leading him to contact the FBI.

Scaramucci had the president’s “green light” to bully Priebus into quitting, but that apparently did not work. Both men were on Air Force One Friday when Trump traveled to Long Island, but Scaramucci did not return to D.C. on the plane.

Kelly is the former commander of United States Southern Command and is considered to be an independent.
