Trump Told Flynn to ‘Stay Strong’ – Just Three Weeks Ago
Could Communication Be Used to Prove Intent to Obstruct?
President Donald Trump told his former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn to “stay strong,” just three weeks ago, Flynn said at a restaurant late last month.
“I just got a message from the president to stay strong,†Lieutenant General Flynn told a small group of supporters April 25, according to a report Thursday in Yahoo News, which cited “two sources who are close to Flynn and are familiar with the conversation.”
Those sources say “Flynn did not indicate how Trump had sent the message —whether it was a written note, a text message, a phone call or some other method.”
But it makes it harder for President Trump to claim he was not attempting to obstruct justice by firing his FBI Director Jim Comey. Newly-appointed Special Counsel Robert Mueller conceivably could use the communication to help prove intent to obstruct. Regardless, it was extraordinarily ill-advised for the President of the United States to contact a White House employee he fired, especially to offer support, after asking the FBI Director to drop the Bureau’s investigation.
Earlier today Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr told reporters Flynn is refusing to comply with a subpoena. He later corrected himself, saying he may have spoken too soon, but as it stands now, Flynn apparently has just a few days left before being in contempt of Congress.
Meanwhile, the question so many are asking today is, why is Trump so loyal to Flynn?
