WATCH: Paul Ryan Says ‘Obamacare Is the Law of the Land’
‘We Will Be Living With Obamacare for the Foreseeable Future’
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan just concluded a press conference after deciding with President Donald Trump to pull and permanently kill the TrumpCare bill. The bill will not be voted on, ever, after Republicans failed to garner enough support to pass it.
“Obamacare is the law of the land,” Ryan told reporters.Â
“We came really close today but we came up short. I will not shirk this. This is a disappointing day for us. Doing big things is hard. We will need time to to reflect,” Ryan said.
“The president gave his all in this effort. He’s really been fantastic. Still, we’ve got to do better and we will. This is a setback, no two ways about it. We are motivated to step up our game and deliver on our promises.”
“Ultimately, this comes down to a choice. Are all of us willing to give a little to get something done. Are we able to accept something good rather than perfect?” he asked, rhetorically.
“There is a block of no votes that we had,” Ryan continued, explaining the reportedly 30-40 “nays” he could not change. “That is why this didn’t pass.”
“Obamacare is the law of the land,” Ryan acknowledged, “and will continue to be the law of the land. We will be living with Obamacare for the foreseeable future.”
