‘We Would Have Sent Up a Much Larger Flare’
Hindsight is 20/20, they say.
FBI Director James Comey, testifying before Congress since 10 AM this morning with little break, admitted that the Bureau should have worked harder to notify the Democratic National Committee about the Russian hacks that led to mountains of data being released via Wikileaks.
As has been reported, the FBI contacted a third party, the contractor responsible for ensuring the DNC’s computer systems were kept running, but that technician took weeks to respond, partly because he did not believe it was actually the FBI calling.
Director Comey, stunningly, Monday afternoon admitted about ten months passed from the time the FBI knew the DNC had been hacked, until the DNC was made fully aware.
“I might have walked over there myself, knowing what I know now,†Comey told the House Intelligence Committee.  “We would have sent up a much larger flare,†Comey admitted.
Reasonable people might disagree with Comey’s defense that his agents reacted appropriately at the time.
