Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price claimed Sunday that “nobody will be worse off financially” once Obamacare is repealed and replaced.
“I firmly believe that nobody will be worse off financially in the process that we’re going through, understanding that they’ll have choices that they can select the kind of coverage that they want for themselves and for the family, not that the government forces them to buy,” Price told NBC News’ “Meet The Press.” Â
“There’s costs that needs to come down, and we believe that we’re going to be able to do that through this new system,” he said. “There’s coverage that’s going to go up.â€
Last week, the Brookings Institute estimated that 15 million people will lose coverage under the GOP’s plan to repeal and replace Obamacare. A report from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) is expected this week.
“CBO’s analysis will likely estimate that at least 15 million people will lose coverage under the American Health Care Act (AHCA) by the end of the ten-year scoring window,” wrote Brookings analysts Loren Adler and Matthew Fiedler. “Estimates could be higher, but it’s is unlikely they will be significantly lower.”
