Trump Accuses Obama Of Tapping His Phones, Compares Him To Nixon
President Attacks Predecessor In Unhinged Twitter Rant
Â
Â
In an unhinged Saturday morning Twitter rant (above), President Donald Trump accused his predecessor of wire tapping his phones during last year’s election.Â
Trump compared the alleged activity to “McCarythism,” as well as “Nixon/Watergate,” and called President Barack Obama a “bad (or sick) guy.” He even made a veiled threat of prosecuting Obama, saying that “a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to the election.” Â
Trumps’s tweets appeared to be based on a Breitbart report about allegations from right-wing radio host Mark Levin, who claims the Obama administration executed “a silent coup” to undermine Trump’s campaign.Â
“Levin called Obama’s effort ‘police state’ tactics, and suggested that Obama’s actions, rather than conspiracy theories about alleged Russian interference in the presidential election to help Trump, should be the target of congressional investigation,” Breitbart reported.Â
Here’s how Twitter responded. Â
Trump’s tweets suggest: 1.) he was personally under investigation for illegally colluding with a hostile power; 2.) he’s seriously unstable.

It would appear the presidential strategy to end trivial fights involves picking one enormous fight with the previous president.

I can’t believe I have to say this again, but next time you’re tempted to praise “New Trump!,” spare a minute to note there is no such thing

“He became president of the United States in that moment, period.” – Pundit reaction to Trump’s speech just days ago. https://t.co/a8qO6dw2Ry

Trump just called Obama a “bad (or sick) guy.” Compared him to Nixon. Normalize that . https://t.co/4PvrmdQGYs

Is this the same “sacred election” you said was rigged? https://t.co/pc2ZfywPTG

When both sides say it’s Watergate or worse, time for independent prosecutor. https://t.co/uAp9RQmUeG

The more you know: If the FISA court approved tapping Trump’s phones, it was legal, which is not like Watergate at all.

SIGINT collection authorized per FISA is hardly illegal wiretapping. If POTUS has evidence of different, he needs to show it — or shut up.

For the last time, it was the FBI not Obama. If you don’t want to be tapped don’t engage in illegal activities, dear. https://t.co/MQ1hTuKnr3
