White House: DeVos Does Not Oppose Rescinding Transgender Guidance – Says New Guidance Coming Today
DeVos Is on Board With This ‘100%’
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer Wednesday told reporters there is “no daylight” between Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and President Trump on rescinding Obama-era guidelines on transgender students. Spicer, disputing a New York Times report published earlier Tuesday, which NCRM sources confirmed, that said DeVos opposed rescinding the guidance. Instead, he says the only disagreement was about “timing and wording.”
“The administration is totally in agreement” in the need to rescind Obama guidelines.
Spicer told reporters to “expect further guidance today” that presumably would rescind the Obama-era guidance directing all public school districts to ensure the civil rights of transgender students are protected.Â
The press secretary echoed his comments from Tuesday, saying “issues like this not best dealt with at federal level.”

Later, Spicer was asked if Secretary DeVos is “on board with this,” and he responded, “Yes, 100%.” Spicer also false characterized Title IX, the federal law that supports the Obama transgender guidance, as not being applicable to transgender people. That is incorrect and courts for years have been ruling it does.Â
