Trump SCOTUS Pick Denounces President’s Comments Attacking Judiciary – Democrats See Move as Political Ploy
‘Not Buying It’
Connecticut Democratic U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal says Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee feels “disheartened” by the president’s attack on the judiciary and feels his remarks are “demoralizing” and “abhorrent.”Â

“I said they were more than disheartening,” Sen. Blumenthal continued, “and I said to him that he has an obligation to make his views clear to the American people, so they understand how abhorrent or unacceptable President Trump’s attacks on the judiciary are.”
Blumenthal has not said if he will vote to confirm Gorsuch.
President Trump has spent the past five days attacking a U.S. District Judge who placed a temporary hold on his likely unconstitutional executive order banning Muslims from seven countries, and nullifying visas of 60,000 to 100,000 green cardholders. Trump denounced the judge as a “so-called judge,” and over the past few days has also attacked judges on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals who are reviewing the lower court’s order.Â
On Wednesday, Pres. Trump went so far as to admit he is incapable of keeping the American people safe and secure if the 9th Circuit does not reinstate his Muslim travel ban.Â
“If the U.S. does not win this case as it so obviously should, we can never have the security and safety to which we are entitled,” Trump claimed. “Politics!”
But on social media many believe Gorsuch’s comments are part of a larger plan, likely from the White House, to rally some support from the left for the highly-controversial SCOTUS nominee.
Gorsuch has zero incentive to refrain from criticizing Trump. Only helps his nomination. https://t.co/KkHWq2XWZQ

Not buying it. Actually, v. smart move on Trump. Gorsuch making anti-trump remarks only helps gain left support. Shows faux neutrality. https://t.co/zV1BbxAIWb

@AriMelber Not buying it. Gorsuch said this to a Dem senator in hopes it would leak and soften up other Dem senators.

I am quite skeptical about Gorsuch being “demoralized.” I believe this is a ploy to make him more likeable to Dems who are voting. https://t.co/ZZUkSdHzHi

Exactly why I don’t buy Gorsuch saying it. Fear it is a ploy to draw support. 45 & klan are manipulators. @TheLizMac https://t.co/JudaPAwR8O

If #Trump doesn’t respond with an absurd and outraged tweet, we know this is part of a ploy to get #Gorsuch confirmed. https://t.co/w1JWZiW3vb
