WATCH: Everything You Need to Know About Why Betsy DeVos Is Unqualified to Be Secretary of Education
Video Shows Just How Damaging, Dangerous, and Frightening DeVos Would Be for Children
Tuesday evening Betsy DeVos, Donald Trump’s nominee to be Secretary of Education, appeared before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. It was an unmitigated disaster. DeVos is not an educator, holds only a bachelor’s degree from a small Christian college, and is a charter schools activist who has called public schools a “dead end.”
DeVos should have automatically been disqualified for having zero experience with public schools, for being against public schools, and for being anti-LGBT, but she proved over and over again just how unqualified she is to manage a $77 billion federal agency.
Sen. Bernie Sanders asked DeVos if she would even be the nominee if she hadn’t given hundreds of millions of dollars to the Republican Party.Â
Sen. Tim Kaine cornered DeVos, who refused to say that children with disabilities deserve equal protection in schools.Â
And Sen. Elizabeth Warren, after exposing just how unqualified DeVos is, told her, “swindlers and crooks are out there doing back flips when they hear an answer” like hers.
The Washington Post collected some of the most excruciating moments from DeVos’ hearing and put them into a compilation video, above.
What happens next is anyone’s guess because, yes, she still could be confirmed.
The video above shows just how damaging, dangerous, and frightening DeVos would be for children.
