Some of America’s most-recognized and well-respected celebrities have joined together to record a video respectfully urging members of the Electoral College to consider casting their ballots for anyone but Donald Trump.
Martin Sheen, Debra Messing, James Cromwell, and BD Wong, among many others, ask the electors to remember that their job is to “safeguard the American people from the dangers of a demagogue, and to ensure that the presidency only goes to someone who is, ‘to an eminent degree, endowed with the requisite qualifications.’â€Â

The list of participants is long, although pretty liberal – they mostly need conservatives, or those elected by conservatives, to change their ballots. Noah Wyle, Freda Payne, Bob Odenkirk, J. Smith Cameron, Michael Urie, Moby, Mike Farrell, Loretta Swit, Richard Schiff, Christine Lahti, Steven Pasquale, Emily Tyra, and Talia Balsam, complete the on-screen list.
What they’re trying to do, as they say repeatedly, is not have the Electoral College elect Hillary Clinton, but rather, deny Trump the 270 votes he needs to officially win the presidency. 37 electors expected to vote for Trump would need to change their vote, thus tossing the election to the House of Representatives.
“By voting your conscience, you and other brave Republican electors can give the House of Representatives the option to select a qualified candidate for the presidency,” they explain.
“What is evident is that Donald Trump lacks more than the qualifications to be president, he lacks the necessary stability, and clearly the respect for the Constitution of our great nation. You have the position, the authority, and the opportunity to go down in the books as an American hero and change the course of history.”
Chances of course are slim, but in case it works – the ballots are cast on December 19, so there’s little time left – the House of Representatives would be forced to either elect Trump, putting them in the unenviable position of actually supporting and certifying his eligibility, or someone else, and that likely would be Mike Pence.
It’s an engaging look at American politics, something the country desperately needs right now:
