Trump Statement on Winning Electoral College Vote Is Filled With Lies

How Many Lies Can You Count?

Donald Trump just posted a statement on winning the Electoral College vote, which he did late Monday afternoon. But the statement, an official communication from the Trump transition team, is filled with lies, including the claim that he won in a landslide and the suggestion, yet again, that he won the popular vote.

“Today marks a historic electoral landslide victory in our nation’s democracy,” Trump’s statement begins. His Electoral College win ranks 46th out of 58. It’s literally the opposite of a landslide.

“I thank the American people for their overwhelming vote to elect me as their next President of the United States,” he continues. Again, Trump lost the popular vote. In fact, with more than 2.8 million votes more than Trump, Hillary Clinton could make that exact statement and it would hold more truth.

“The official votes cast by the Electoral College exceeded the 270 required to secure the presidency by a very large margin, far greater than ever anticipated by the media,” he says. While most of the media predicted a Clinton win, Trump walks away with just 304 Electoral College votes, after two Texas electors refused to cast their ballots for him. That’s not a “very large margin,” nor, again, does it rank even in the top half of Electoral College wins.

“This election represents a movement that millions of hard working men and women all across the country stood behind and made possible. With this historic step we can look forward to the bright future ahead. I will work hard to unite our country and be the President of all Americans,” he concludes. “Together, we will make America great again.”
