UPDATING: HB2 to Be Repealed After Charlotte City Council Votes to Annul LGBT Nondiscrimination Law
State Lawmakers Expected to Act Tuesday
The Charlotte City Council Monday morning unanimously voted to repeal its LGBT nondiscrimination law if the North Carolina General Assembly repeals the unconstitutional anti-LGBT law HB2. State lawmakers have until December 31 to act or the Charlotte law will stay on the books. Governor-elect Roy Cooper says the Republican leaders in the legislature have said they will act Tuesday.
“I hope they will keep their word to me and with the help of Democrats in the legislature, HB2 will be repealed in full,†Cooper told  WNCN.

Governor Pat McCrory earlier this year had said if the city council were to take this action, state lawmakers would repeal the expansive law some have described as the most anti-LGBT law in the nation.
HB2 has cost the state millions of dollars in revenue and thousands of jobs. Many corporations, organizations, and even state governments are boycotting the Tar Heel State over the law, which not only mandates transgender people use the restroom that corresponds with the gender on their birth certificates, but nullified all LGBT and some other nondiscrimination laws in cities and towns across the state. HB2 also stripped local governments of the right to pass minimum wage and employment discrimination ordinances.
UPDATE I: 10:34 AM EST –
The mutual repeals still leave LGBT residents without nondiscrimination protections amid a hostile GOP veto-proof state legislature. It’s unclear if cities that had LGBT nondiscrimination protections, which HB2 nullified, will be able to treat those as back in force.Â
Stay tuned for more.

This was the absolute worst way to repeal #HB2. Trans people deserve better. https://t.co/aPje58iCwy

Want to believe the GA will repeal HB2, but so very hard to trust them to do the right thing. https://t.co/5QdTnWNdbH

One of the only things that made #hb2 bearable was that Charlotte kept standing up for trans rights(even if only symbolically). Now nothing.
